The Best Cheap Blowdryers

Fact: everyone is looking for the best blow for their buck.

Wait, did I just get a drug and sex pun in the same joke? Hold on while I high five myself really quickly.

Now back to blowdryers.

Let me start by admitting that I am a hair snob. I use snooty French products (Privé and Renee Furterer), think Drybar is basically the best beauty experience in the world, and have let only one stylist snip my hair in the last seven years (Beth at Dragonfly).

But blowdryers stress me out. How do I know which one is best? Do I really have to spend $100 for a decent one? What if it breaks? F*ck a warranty–I’m going to throw out or lose all proof of when I purchased the damn thing within a week.

When my pricey blowdryer bit the big one after just one year, I thought I’d toss the ol’ “you get what you pay for” adage aside and explore some cheaper options.

After all, it’s just hot air. Why even pay for it when there are plenty of dudes out there with enough to go around?

I purchased this puppy and really liked it. Revlon Style-and-Go Dryer:

It gave me a seriously sleek blowout in a short amount of time (using that fancy tourmaline ionic and ceramic technology), PLUS it folded up and had a retractable cord (best. blowdryer. for traveling. ever). I have to admit–it only lasted me about a year, but I dropped it about 6,783 times. Like, I have never dropped anything so many times in my life. When it started to rattle while I was sharing a room on a cruise with my cousin, I tossed it (she was already scared we were going down like the Titanic, so I didn’t need to worry her with the possibility of death by dryer).

The ONLY Drawback: I felt like the concentrator attachment didn’t stay on that securely. But again, maybe that was because I dropped it so many times or just whipped my hair around too aggressively and knocked it off.
Price/Where to Buy: At Target for $24.99, $24.99 on Amazon and $29.99 on Drugstore.com.

I was going to purchase that little nugget again when I got back on land, but then I tried this gem at my friend Kelley’s house and fell in love with its styling capabilities and pink trim. Remington Pearl Ceramic Professional:

The Pearl is a slightly larger and heavier option, but that also makes it feel more “salon quality.”

It uses ceramic pearl technology (I don’t know what the hell that is, but I like it) to give you smooth and shiny hair and it works fast and quietly.

It has three heat settings, two speeds, and a pretty chilly cool shot (is there anything worse than a cool shot that isn’t cool?). I’ve only had it for six months, but have had no issues except for too many hair compliments (just kidding…sorta), plus the FOUR year warranty makes me think Remington is pretty confident in this bad boy.

The ONLY Drawback: The opposite end (you know, the suction end) doesn’t have a cover on it, so it can suck up your hair. However, I flip my hair all over the place when I blow dry and I haven’t had any problems. Just keep it in mind and you’ll be fine (in more ways than one).
Price/Where to Buy: Currently on sale at Target for $29.99, $39.99 on RemingtonProducts.com (uh, don’t buy it there), and $27.99 on Amazon.

So now you can give yourself a top-notch blow job at a great price. If you have an awesome, cheap blowdryer, feel free to leave a comment and share your secret so I (and other readers) can get in on it!
