It’s Electric: Spring’s Hottest Eye Makeup Trend

We have another kickass post from guest blogger Hayden of Pretty In My Pocket (aka PRIMP, the awesome beauty app I’m sure you’ve already downloaded, right?). I’m especially excited about this topic and you’ll see why…

Don’t worry. I’m not about to flood your brain with uncomfortable memories from junior high parties by mentioning this overplayed, group dance jam. You have to admit though… it’s pretty damn catchy.

But onto more important things…

Nothing says “I’m sexy and I know it” more than that sultry, smoky eye (remember these palettes?) and dark lined lids. But tune in and turn up the hypercolor, ladies, because spring is coming in super hot with another vixen-y, but more vibrant, look: Electric eyeliner.

Just off the top of my head, I’ve had a few dream alter egos in my day: Bad ass roller derby chick, rock and roll vocal vixen, and (curveball!) a total circus freak. Safe to say I’m digging this bold, spring trend because all three of my fantasy femme identities would certainly sport it with pride. In all honesty though, any girl can rock this look. From the classic lady to the freak show extremist, electric eyeliner draws attention to the prettiest of facial features in a stunning, fun, and youthful way.

From day to night, lining your lower or upper lid with a pop of vibrant blue, purple, green, pink, orange, or yellow is an easy way to spice up your natural look. PRIMP tip: Let the color speak for itself. Stick to natural makeup, dewy cheeks, and soft pink or nude lips to balance out the ferocity and vibrancy of your eyes. We want to look like sassy pixies here, not shuffleboard loving, Palm Beach grannies. (No offense, Grandma.)

Now, for the goods. For a high-end option, we love Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils ($19) or Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes ($18). For the girl on a budget, we dig CoverGirl’s Liquiline Blast Eyeliner ($9) or L’Oreal’s H.I.P. Studio Secrets Color Chrome Eyeliner ($10).

Spread the word. “F*ck me” eyes just got a face lift. Happy spring, pretty ladies.

PRIMP on,
Hayden

Editor’s note: I tried this trend last week at an event at WAX, where makeup artist extraordinaire Raney O’Keefe  brightened me up with an electric blue Nars shadow. You can use shadow to achieve this look, but know that it can flake and color can transfer to your upper lid, so unless you’re a pro, stick with liner.
