Appreciate Teachers This Week + Learn Their Beauty Secrets

Today begins Teacher Appreciation Week. If you’re a teacher, you are fully justified in expecting a cocktail and foot rub to be waiting for you when you get home from school today (and every day through Friday). If you don’t have anyone to provide those things, head to the nearest pedicure salon that serves wine.

I’ve always felt teachers don’t get enough pay, recognition, and appreciation, so when I heard about what one company was doing to honor them, I felt the need to shout it from the rooftops, er, from my keyboard. Through May 14, Skin Authority is honoring teachers in two awesome ways: 1) If you purchase $50 of their products, they’ll send a $50 gift certificate to the teacher of your choice (whaaa?). Let me recommend the Age Defying Moisturizer with SPF 18, the Olive, Fig, Shea Butter Body Cream (buy one, get one free through May), and miracle product Wrinkle Reversing Serum with SGF-4 technology (fancy lingo for “OMFG, my skin looks and feels younger in just weeks”). And 2) Nominate your favorite teacher who has touched your life, and she/he could win an incredible spa experience (top finalists will receive $50 gift cards). All the details HERE.

Then I got to thinking about my favorite teachers who are all Witty + Pretty, which I find to be unbelievable because if I was around kids all day, I would be bitchy, prematurely gray-haired, and stress-wrinkled. But no–my mom and my aunt both look 15-20 years younger than their age (it’s like, not even fair). So I thought it perfect timing to reveal their beauty secrets.

Retired elementary school librarian/happy hour director
Beauty Must-Have: Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion. It’s great under your makeup during the day and for nighttime.
Secret for Staying Young: I never go to bed without cleaning my face thoroughly and putting moisturizer on. And being a pescatarian, drinking eight glasses of water a day, and exercising doesn’t hurt!

Beauty Must-Have: Cetaphil cleanser and L’Oreal night cream.
Secret for Staying Young: I gently exfoliate regularly (at least once a week), and eat lots of fish and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Cory Ferguson (BFF)
High school history and economics/soccer coach/summer bartender
Beauty Must-Have: Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo. I wake up at 5:30 a.m. and go teach for eight hours, then coach soccer; and in the summer, I bartend until 3 a.m. Can’t have greasy, flat hair!

Beauty Must-Have: Banana Boat Aloe Aftersun Lotion. Teachers are at the beach a lot in the summer and want to hold onto that tan in the fall. And a good hand lotion is a must–I use a lot of hand sanitizer, which dries out your hands, so you have to keep them moisturized. Oh, and drink lots of water (and red wine!).

So there you have it: secrets of teachers who stay pretty and young-looking. Now get to work appreciating them!
