This Print Takes You From Basic to Statement

Consideration provided by Target.

In life, we have both basics and statements. Basics are the girls posting cleavage pics on Instagram disguised as coffee-drinking selfies while statement girls are off doing cool sh*t and not worrying about which filter makes them look the most like a Kardashian.

And in fashion we also have basics and statements (the difference being that both are cool). You need your standard skinny jeans, lived-in white tee, and go-to pencil skirt as much as your coral crochet shorts, chevron crop top, and zebra print kimono (PS where can I get a zebra print kimono?).

Target sent me out once again with a fashion challenge — pick up some tribal print statement pieces to integrate into my wardrobe. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, and I love me some fun patterns. Here are three pieces that make a statement with my #basics.

I am obsessed with this crop top and its tribal detailing on the straps. Target somehow made a teeny top with a fit and length to make you look and feel skinny even on the first day or your period after a pizza binge (what?). You can wear this with so much — denim shorts, high-waisted pants, maxi skirt, etc., but I chose to wear it with a dressier pair of high-waisted black pants and wedge heels and surprised myself with how well it paired together.

Why wear a plain tank when you can rock a fun print? First of all, Target ribbed tanks have been my favorite for years and I was excited to see a variation on the ol’ solid colors ($8). I threw it on with my crochet shorts (which I do consider a basic/staple in any summer wardrobe) and VOILA: Summer swag for days. (These crochet shorts aren’t from Target, but they do have a fab pair for $35.)

Mix prints and throw on a sleeveless kimono for extra tribal flair.

If there’s one thing I love in life when it comes to fashion …  it’s wearing clothing that feels like pajamas (guys LOVE it). So when I spotted these tribal palazzo pants, I had to add them to my collection of 700. Obvious choice was to pair with a bright crop top and J-Lo hoops (also from Target).

So consider this print when you’re looking to mixing it up this summer. And please, for the love of God, think again if you ever go to post a coffee/cleavage selfie.

Ashley
